For individuals in all visa classifications (with the exception of J,F), the expiration date of an individual’s stay is written on the white I-94 card received upon admission to the U.S. For individuals on J and F visas, often the designation D/S is written on the I-94 card. – these visas expire on the date listed on either the IAP-66 or I-20 form.

It is often possible to extend an individual’s stay beyond the current expiration date, though different and often complex rules apply to the different visa classifications.
